hi there a friend of mine is a karaoke artist in florida iam just wondering if antone knows if he needs a licence to perform his acts and if so were do you get one from

I can't speak from direct experience since I'm here in the UK but looking at the BMI license forms here,
http://www.bmi.com/licensing/forms/index_gl.asp it looks like the situation is similar for USA and UK. A license is needed, but it's usually held by the venue rather than the KJ or DJ. Each of the forms on their list seem to be aimed at the venue manager or owner.

Hi,  I think if Antone, as an independent artist, performs in karaoke clubs, or bars, then Mark is correct that the licensing should be the responsibility of the venue owner. This is especially true if Antone uses the equipment and karaoke discs at the venue.  If, however, Antone plays other types of venues and brings his own equipment and CD+Gs, then he probably should look into getting his own license.
